One person can pedal enough power to charge eight devices at once! Excess power is stored in the Recharge Station circuit to keep charging devices and light the green LED. A typical pedaler fills it up in about 3–5 minutes; a full station keeps charging for another 8–12 minutes depending on the devices attached.
Pedaling faster won't charge your phone any faster than a wall outlet would — you're generating exactly enough electricity to charge a device and nothing more. It's not the speed, it's the duration: constant pedaling means constant charging. For the quickest charge, put the device in airplane mode or use a quality "quick charge" USB cable. A fully dead phone takes about as long as it would on the wall.
A pedaler generates about 60–80 watts at an easy pace. When the onboard computer detects incoming power it charges the ultra-capacitors — like batteries, but they charge and discharge quickly and can be cycled many thousands of times. It also powers the USB chargers and lights the desktop charge gauge, which climbs from red (low) to blue to white to blinking white (full). Each device draws about 5 watts, so the ratio is roughly 5 minutes of pedaling per device. If the circuit fills up, the desk stops accepting power as a safety feature.
No! One person can easily power up to 8 USB devices. It's ideal for conventions, meetings, festivals and all-day events where people need power but don't have easy outlet access. Place it prominently where people gather — the bright green glow and the activity of the pedaler draw a crowd who share the desk, charge their devices, and take turns pedaling.
Our generator bikes have some initial resistance when you start pedaling — it can feel tough for a moment, then it eases off. You need a couple of rotations (about 10 seconds) to get power flowing, and from that point on the device is charging. A small capacitor keeps the phone charging for another 1–5 minutes even if you stop, depending on how much power you put in.
